Dear Loyal Supporters,
Well, we put up a good fight and did our best, but I lost the
election to Ray Nutting 68% to 32%. Considering that Ray outraised me in donations by 8 to 1, and that he
got endorsements from all the groups that I feel would be better
served by me (unions, agricultural commission, winery groups), I feel
good about getting almost 6,000 votes to his 12,000.
We got virtually no money from any special interest group; all
donations were from family, friends and relatives, and El Dorado County
residents. While Ray raised over $136
thousand, allowing him to hire a campaign manager and mail several
professional looking flyers, I garnered $17,000 and ran my campaign
totally with volunteers. To that end, I want to thank all of you
for your donations of money, time and emotional support. I
especially want to thank:
- Sallie Sanchez for organizing and
sending out the email notices;
- Cyndi Fink for
donating her talent to create and maintain the website;
- Gail Shoop-Lamy for doing the photography;
- RedDog Records for providing
a video for my website;
- John, Jim, Joe, Don,
and Ted for covering the county with the big signs;
- And most of all, to
Kathy and John McCoy who worked tirelessly and constantly on
my behalf as campaign coordinator and treasurer.
I appreciate everyone's support
over this last 14 months, and realize I could not have done it without
you. We will continue to work together to make a difference
in our communities, the county, district, state and nation. And
thank you all for keeping me together during the process.
