Issues

Barbara Smiley is running for District 2 which is mostly the southern half of the county from El Dorado Hills to Echo Lake.  This area needs a supervisor who has a vision for our future growth that retains its rural nature. A supervisor who will listen to you and speak up for your concerns.  Barbara has been active in our community and community groups for over seven years working with others to make a difference in El Dorado County.

Smart Growth

The population of El Dorado County is increasing. We need to plan for this growth and determine how best to develop the land and utilize the natural resources to maintain the rural environment we have come to enjoy. Our leaders need your input to put together a master plan of land use development over the next 15 to 20 years so that we develop wisely rather than creating urban sprawl. See statement on Measure Y renewal.

Managed Traffic

We need safe roads and better traffic flow. Some neighborhoods want signs or speed bumps, while others need street maintenance. Better access to commercial areas is needed as they are developed. We need to look at signal timing in commercial areas and auxiliary lanes on the freeway to get people from one exit to the next. Let’s reduce traffic where we can and keep our neighborhoods safe. See Elk Grove Connector statement.

Livable Communities

We want to see community friendly neighborhoods with trees, walking and bicycle paths, and open spaces. Our seniors need to have homes to which they can move that are more easily managed and nearer to the services they require. Our children need to find work and homes here so that they can start building their own future. And we need to have housing near transportation and commercial centers so that we can keep our workforce local.
